Does the idea of a visit to the dentist trigger apprehension? Don Harvey Dental Comprehensive Dentistry would like you to recognize that meeting both your physical and emotional needs is in our care. We will do all that is possible to help you feel safe and comfortable. You can take power into your own hands as well and help yourself relax. How? Here are some suggestions:

Distract Yourself: If you would like, you can wear headphones and listen to your favorite songs or an audiobook on your smartphone or ipod. You can even bring a stress ball and squeeze it gently while you work. If you don’t have any of those things, you may want to just close your eyes and think of a particularly peaceful place or memory, like some time in a garden or on the beach.

Practice Relaxation: When you are nervous, your heart rate speeds up and your breathing quickens. Inhale slowly through your nose and exhale through your mouth. Count each breath. A second technique to try is to tense and relax each aspect of your body, starting with the tip of your toes and ending with the crown of your head.

Communicate: When you call us, let us know that you have dental anxiety. This will help us to prepare better to meet your needs. If you have questions, feel free to ask us. If you are ever more uncomfortable or need more anesthetic, just tell us or raise your hand and we can help.
