Social, romantic and business situations can be stressful enough as it is. You don’t need bad breath making it even more stressful, right? Right. Unfortunately, bad breath, which is also known as halitosis, plagues many people in the world today. So, you’re not alone when it comes to suffering from stinky breath.
Fortunately, there are things you can do regularly to eliminate your halitosis and attain the fresh and pristine breath you need to make life that much better. To help you, Dr. Don Harvey and our dental team would like to share some tips.
First, keep up on oral hygiene. To do so, brush your teeth twice a day, floss your smile once a day, rinse your mouth daily, and scrub your tongue regularly, whether it’s with your toothbrush or a tongue scraper. These things will help you wash away the bacteria and food particles that are causing bad breath. Also, make sure to visit your dentist regularly. Doing so is a great way to fix or avoid bad breath, especially because bad breath often results from gum disease. So, please remember to attend your dental checkup and cleaning every six months.
Second, clean your dental appliances. If you have dentures, mouthguards or retainers, it’s important to clean them on a regular basis, preferably once a day with your toothbrush or denture cleaner. If you don’t clean them, food particles and bacteria can stick to the appliances and release a foul smell, causing bad breath.
Third, moisten your mouth. Because dry mouth is a major cause of bad breath, it’s best to try to moisten your mouth. You can do so by producing as much saliva as possible. To help you, it’s best to eat healthy foods that require a lot of chewing or chew sugar-free gum regularly.
Fourth, quit using tobacco products. If you quit smoking and using tobacco products, you will not only have a fresh and pristine breath, but you will also have strong and successful health.
